In class we have been talking about "leaving" meaning why people decide to leave their countries and immigrate to a different country and what kinds of things influence their decision. People leave for many reasons such as looking for better job and or education opportunities which is a very common reason. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have the type of education system we have here in Canada that is sometimes taken for granted. People leave because of safety and security reasons so this could mean that there might have been war in the country or something may have been going on that caused the people living there to feel unsafe. This is very important because no one wants to live in a place they do not feel safe in,they want that sense of security and freedom and not have to feel scared. After immigration and coming to a new place people must find a place of belonging ,identity and where they fit into this new culture. They need to learn new laws, way of life, finding a new job and a new place to live, and these things are extremely difficult to do. How do you do this? Where do you start? In the next generation(have kids) the immigrants start theres always going to be that question in there head of where did i come from?. An example of this is Dionne Brands story of her constantly asking her grandfather where are they from and him not really knowing or knowing and not wanting to tell her. She says this caused entrangement between her and him because as a child that was a very important question and it was never answered,so she really doesnt know. Me as a kid i always asked my parents where they came from and why they chose to immigrate here, and what they had to do in order for us to be where we are today. Immigration can sometimes be a scary because there is gunna be that feeling of abandonment and having to adapt but it is worth it in the end.
